Happy Solstice Dear Friends,
June 20th is the Summer Solstice in the Northern Latitudes. Ancient people understood that the Mother Goddess was pregnant and would give birth at Lammas (August 2nd) with her abundant harvest. It is also traditionally a time to honor the Sun which is at its powerful zenith.
Since I have just returned from Peru, where it will be the Winter Solstice, I am much more conscious of including the Southern Hemisphere in my thoughts for this special time. While we were in Cusco, high in the Andes, the townspeople were preparing for the biggest celebration of the year, a week long time of fireworks, church festivals and general high spirits that include everyone.
There is so much that I want to share about my two weeks in this incredibly beautiful country. My beloved husband, Gary has posted photos on my facebook page which tell a part of the story—please feel free to friend me if you haven’t already and you can see them—they come up first in the line up.
What I really want to share more than anything is a bit of what I learned about their cosmology. Our first week was spent in the Amazon Basin rainforest, in a protected reserve area. We stayed at a beautiful Eco Lodge called Refugio Amazonas (please Google to see their website). There were 67 of us working with our Shaman and his cousin from the northern Peruvian Amazon, another amazing Shaman (Herbert Quinteros—also on line). That week was more about absorbing the feeling of the flora and fauna and the healing qualities of the land. They believe that the forest is a living entity that interacts with us and that the plants have a powerful consciousness which we can connect with in order to receive their wisdom.
The second week in the Sacred Valley was three of us (Gary, Jean and me) with a guide specializing in spiritual tours who brought along an Andean Shaman, Roberto Solis. Roberto spent the whole week teaching us the real meaning of what we saw as we visited sacred sites in the Sacred Valley. Mind you, the “valley” is from 11,500 to 13,000 ft. high. Together with our guide, Carlos, Roberto guided us to ask permission of the Apu to enter into the Vortex areas at the sites and perform ceremony. We were also introduced to the special plant magic of the Andes.
Once Roberto discovered my interest in Sacred Sexuality that first day, he continued to talk to me about his understanding of Sexual Alchemy (also calling it Sex Magic) all week long. What was so amazing is that everything he said made sense and coincided with so much of what I have written. He spoke of the eternal dance of the Masculine and the Feminine, the Chakra system (which he called Plexus), and the transcendent possibilities of this life force energy. All of this knowledge is universal wherever there are indigenous beliefs and I was thrilled to add Quechua cosmology to my research. Earth based spiritual systems have always taught that sexuality is sacred; the wisdom is simply re-emerging in our times. Roberto called this period we are entering “the New Age” and everywhere I hear a similar understanding: that we are in transition and a cosmic shift is happening right now.
What a glorious time to be aware of all this. Venus just completed a transit of the Sun which happens only once every 113 years and she is coming out of retrograde motion, just as the great Pluto square Uranus goes exact. Relationships and money are the most powerful associations with Venus and I’m sure you are experiencing transformation in one or both of these areas as I write. In Roberto’s words “gratitude, forgiveness and happiness” are the only vibrations we should tune into.
Please take a moment to honor this powerful Solstice energy and affirm that All Is Well as we move through this transformational energy and keep your compass pointed towards your own true north.
